Grand Opening of Harris Teeter in Portsmouth, Va.

Charlotte, N.C. (PRWEB) May 07, 2012
Harris Teeter is opening its first store in Portsmouth, Va. this Wednesday, May 9, 2012 and is celebrating the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and weekend activities to introduce community members to the HT Difference. The company is also making a $ 15,000 donation to Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to show its continued commitment to fighting hunger in the community.
Harris Teeter was established in 1960 when two North Carolina grocers merged operations, and once a 15-store chain with stores in North Carolina, it is now a regional grocery with over 200 locations in eight states and Washington, D.C. In each of its locations including its newest store in Portsmouth, Harris Teeter strives to offer customers an excellent shopping experience on every visit. An excellent shopping experience starts in the store with customer service, high quality perishables and variety and selection but also includes community involvement. To celebrate the grand opening of the companys 208th store, therefore, Store Manager Kenny Spruill is presenting a $ 15,000 check to Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to help it fight hunger in the community.
Harris Teeters commitment to the community also extends to its approach to sustainability. Harris Teeter is introducing various green practices and programs into its Churchland Marketplace Harris Teeter. The store features a white reflective energy efficient roof; glass doors on dairy, package meat, beer and packaged produce cases; LED lighting on frozen food and dairy case doors; low flow faucets; non-ozone depleting refrigerant; motion detection lighting; energy management systems and heat reclamation systems. All of these features serve to minimize the stores carbon footprint to benefit future generations; Harris Teeter also encourages its shoppers to take little green steps to promote a sustainable future, including using reusable bags and recycling plastic and paper in the recycling bins in front of the store.
